2003 Volunteer Recognition Award

Dr. Darwin Braund, Dr. John Zeigler, Dean Robert Steele, Leslie Firth

Dr. John H. Ziegler, professor emeritus of food science, received the Volunteer Recognition Award from the Pasto Agricultural Museum during the museum's recent annual meeting.

Dean Robert Steele made the presentation and said, "John's service to the college, University, and State College community is legion." The award recognized Dr. Ziegler for his longtime leadership and dedicated service to the museum. He chaired the museum committee when the museum was a major and direct project of the Ag Alumni Society. When the first silent auction for the museum began in 2000, John was a key organizer of the auction checkout and payment procedures. He has been a vital behind-the-scenes worker and donor in all four silent auctions.

When money was provided to endow the Professor P. Thomas Ziegler exhibit in the museum, John Ziegler (no relation) became the official exhibition consultant. As a former student under Professor P. T. Ziegler, and later a faculty colleague, John provided a direct connection to historical archives and personal experiences involving Professor Ziegler. This connection added valuable history and accuracy to the exhibition titled "Early Farm and Home Pork Processing and Preservation."
